No same day appointments at my doctor’s office so they sent me to urgent care. Urgent care can’t do squat so they sent me to the ER. It’s the same old abdominal problem that rears it’s ugly head every year or two. I just want them to give me the usual course of antibiotics and send me on my way, but I guess everybody, especially NPs, are fearful of malpractice so I get to go broke being told what I already know.
Maybe I should have become a doctor - so far I’ve had doctors verify all of the major ailments I’ve self diagnosed, from diverticulitis to migraines to temporal lobe epilepsy amongst others. But as I get older I realize that more of me is failing and I don’t have the time to research my own ailments to the degree necessary.
At this point I just want some sort of sustenance. I’ve been told not to eat or drink anything. I’ve dropped 10 lbs since Monday and just want a bite, or some Gatorade at the very least. The pain of my ailment isn’t too bad right now, overshadowed by the pain of hunger. I did want to lose some weight, but this isn’t exactly how I wanted to go about it...

I had diverticulitis since 2003 and in 2014 the doctor told me not to worry, since in 10 years I had no complications. Then on February 21 2017, my diverticulitis ruptured my large intestine. The worst case scenario finally happened.
Got an emergency operation to clean the poop out of me, and the removed 15 inches of large intestine. Left the hospital 8 days later with a poop bag for two month. Got operated on the 26 of April 2017 to remove the bag and put what was left of my plumbing together.
Life went back to normalish the 1 of June. now my scars hurt, but i’m alive.
No longer have my constant pain in my intestines like I did since 2003

2002 for me. I’m hoping to avoid the scenario you experienced, usually through a high-fiber diet, with fiber supplements if needed. But I ran out and had been too tired to get to the store to get more, and combined with the first steak I’ve had in a year I’m now paying the price.
I was hospitalized back in 2012, but I was dirt poor and had a lousy diet and ended up in the county hospital. It wasn’t the worst case I’d experienced, but it was a teaching hospital so maybe I was just an experiment for the students. Same old thing — antibiotics and time — although in that case it was via IV and a couple of days rest in the hospital.
A couple hours later and I’m still sitting around, waiting for the blood work to come back before I get a scan. Somehow I don’t think I’m going to make it to work for my 0500 shift, but at least the office has been notified. I got half a day in today, and felt guilty about leaving as well as calling off from an overtime shift on Wednesday. The money for the extra day would be nice, but I think my health is a tad more important.
